In its base case scenario, before more substantial diplomatic efforts are made to narrow the negotiation gap between the US and Iran, higher oil and gas prices and direct shortages may cause further economic pain and lead to negative macroeconomic impacts, Citi Research issued a research report saying.

The broker's base case assumption suggests that conflicts and strait disruptions will continue for 4-6 weeks before serious agreement negotiations commence. This implies that, in the short term, oil prices could sometimes reach as high as US$120 per barrel, but as disruptions ease, Brent oil prices may fall back to US$75 per barrel by the end of 2026.
