The Hong Kong stock market was thriving on the first trading day of 2026. In early trading, the HSI once grew 467 points to a peak of 26,098, returning above the 26,000 mark. It last printed at 26,085, up 454 points or nearly 1.8%, with a turnover of HKD44.891 billion.

BIREN TECH (06082.HK) made its debut today. As Hong Kong's first China-made GPU stock, it opened at HKD35.7, 82% higher than its listing price of HKD19.6. It last traded at HKD37.2, nearly 90% higher than its listing price, with a turnover of HKD3.488 billion.

HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK), after opening flat at HKD74.3, last traded at HKD81.5, up 9.7%, with a turnover of HKD759 million. It has finalized plans to raise RMB7.556 billion through A-share issuance for the acquisition of Huali Microelectronics, and the final consideration won't include any cash portion.

SMIC (00981.HK) also opened unchanged at HKD71.45. It last rose nearly 5% to HKD75, with a turnover of HKD1.027 billion.

Major tech stocks were trending upward. BIDU-SW (09888.HK) was last at HKD141.5, up 7.6%, the largest gain among blue chips, with a turnover of HKD1.653 billion. TENCENT (00700.HK), BABA-W (09988.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK), XIAOMI-W (01810.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK), and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) also swelled 2.5-3.2% in early trading, while MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) rallied 1.7%.
