Hong Kong stocks opened higher to make a red debut on the first trading day of the new year. The HSI opened 86 points or 0.3% higher at 25,717. The HSCEI opened 36 points or 0.4% higher at 8,949. The HSTECH opened 31 points or 0.6% higher at 5,547.

Domestic GPU maker BIREN TECH(06082.HK) opened at $35.7 on debut, 82% above its IPO price of $19.6. HUA HONG SEMI (01347.HK) finalized its A-share issuance to raise RMB7.556 billion for the acquisition of Shanghai Huali Microelectronics, with a consideration excluding cash components. The stock opened flat at $74.3. SMIC (00981.HK) opened flat at $71.45.

For other techs, TENCENT (00700.HK) and BABA-W (09988.HK) ticked up 0.3%, while KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) ebbed 0.2%. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK) opened flat at $103.3, while JD-SW (09618.HK) and BIDU-SW (09888.HK) gained 0.6% and 0.5%. NTES-S (09999.HK) jumped up 2.5%, while JD HEALTH (06618.HK), BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) and NEW ORIENTAL-S (09901.HK) climbed 1.4-1.6%.
