Kevin Hassett, Director of the National Economic Council of the US, is the frontrunner nominated by US President Donald Trump as the next Federal Reserve Chairman, according to a report by the American political media outlet Politico. However, there are internal doubts within the US government about Hassett's ability to fulfill the role.

Skeptics believed Hassett is now only doing the job as a spokesperson for Trump, without playing a role in driving policy, raising concerns about his capability to fulfill a crucial role in the economy, the report said.

Furthermore, some critics described Hassett as merely an "observer" on the issue of reciprocal tariffs, and both critics and supporters agreed that Hassett only provides opinions on potential policy impacts, rather than assuming a coordinating role typical of the Director of the National Economic Council.
