The Central Economic Working Conference was held in Beijing from December 10 to 11. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the conference and delivered a keynote speech. Members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, including Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, and Li Xi, also attended the conference. The conference pointed out that this year has been an extraordinary one. The Chinese economy has forged ahead despite pressure, developing in a new and superior direction. The conference believed that new understandings and experiences have been gained in carrying out economic work under the new circumstances through practice: it is imperative to fully tap the economic potential; it is essential to adhere to both policy support and reform and innovation; it is necessary to ensure both "flexible deregulation" and "effective management"; it is needed to closely integrate investment in things and investment in people; and it is crucial to fortify internal capabilities to cope with external challenges.
