Nvidia (NVDA.US) has developed location verification technology that can tell the country where a chip is operating, Reuters reported, citing sources. This technology is intended to prevent AI chips from being smuggled into countries they are prohibited from being exported to. It is understood that Nvidia has been internally showcasing this feature for the past few months but hasn't officially released it yet. This feature can be provided to users for installation during software updates. Nvidia issued a statement saying it is implementing a new software service that allows data center operators to monitor the health and inventory status of the entire AI GPU cluster.
