Calling for a ramped-up promotion of autonomous vehicles in its latest Policy Address, the Hong Kong government intends to designate three areas for testing this year. The testing goal is to enable autonomous vehicles to travel across regions and connect with other transportation modes, accelerating the unmanned and scaled development of autonomous driving in the city for commercial operations as soon as possible. Wang Yunpeng, Vice President of BIDU-SW (09888.HK) (BIDU.US) and President of the Intelligent Driving Group, expressed welcome and support for the Hong Kong government's plans. Baidu Apollo is currently advancing autonomous vehicle testing in Hong Kong on the back of the government's policies and regulations, with Apollo Go's public road testing in the city having expanded to three areas since the end of last year, Wang pointed out.
