CATL Robin Zeng: Involution in Energy Storage Sector Extends Overseas, Accelerating Industry Reshuffle

Robin Zeng, Chairman of CATL (03750.HK), said at the World Energy Storage Conference 2025 that the prices of energy storage systems dropped by about 80% over the past 3 years, and 2025 price war has extended overseas. He emphasized that malicious low pricing will inevitably lead to reduced quantity and cost, posing quality and safety risks for the industry. There are currently over 300,000 registered energy storage companies, and full marketization will accelerate industry reshuffle, leading to the elimination of many companies, Zeng added. This will result in orphaned power stations, where companies have closed down stations with no maintenance, leaving future responsibilities to the society and the country.
