Sources at multiple silicon wafer makers have confirmed that the majority of the companies across all tiers raised silicon wafer prices yesterday (9th) afternoon, according to the Securities Times. Due to the sudden price adjustment, industry consultancy InfoLink's updated price information didn't include this change and still showed that the average transaction price for some sizes of silicon wafers would see a decrease of about 1% this week. The report cited industry insiders as saying that the main reason for the silicon wafer price increase was the upstream silicon material price hike, causing a transmission effect. Because of the slowdown in the growth rate of terminal demand in China's photovoltaic market, however, whether the downstream battery segment can accept this silicon wafer price rise remains to be seen.
