Container shipping rates from China to the US have dropped by more than half compared to earlier this month, as the rebound in import demand triggered by US President Donald Trump's tariff cuts on Chinese goods has fallen short of expectations, Reuters reported. Reuters cited a report from Jefferies analysts indicating that freight rates for standard containers on the Shanghai-to-US West Coast route surged to a peak of around USD6,000 at the start of the month, but have since found a short-term bottom at about USD2,500. The pullback in rates has reflected the recent spike in US imports, but signs suggest this effect may not last as long as initially expected, said Shipping consultancy Drewry.
