HK Container Terminal Falls Out of Global Top 10

According to the latest ranking of container ports by the shipping industry, Hong Kong fell out of the world's top 10 last year. Shanghai, Singapore and Ningbo were the top three ports, with Dubai replacing Hong Kong in the 10th spot.

According to the latest statistics released by Alphaliner, an international shipping research organisation, Hong Kong dropped out of the top 10 for the first time on record to 11th place. Shanghai topped the list with a throughput of about 49.158 million TEUs last year, up 3.9% YoY and 13.5% over 2019. Singapore and Ningbo ranked 2nd and 3rd with 39.013 million and 35.3 million TEUs respectively, up 4.6%/5.8% YoY and 4.9%/28.2% over 2019 respectively.

Qingdao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Busan, Tianjin and Los Angeles/Long Beach (LA/LB) ranked 4th to 9th.

Hong Kong's port throughput reached 14.342 million TEUs last year, down 14.1% YoY, marking the 7th consecutive year of decline and a 21.6% decrease from 2019.
